Day 5 on the Road - the way Home

I hope not to "Lose my Heart in ...." today.  Woke up with wicked leg cramps - hot shower helped a little. Packed up and went outside - it was sooooo foggy that I had a hard time finding Foggy.  After finding some coffee I did made it to the Golden Gate Bridge.   I did send you pictures of the bridge, but I did take a hike to one of the old forts and took these pictures.....
I then went over the bridge and took Highway 1 through Frisco down to Half Moon Bay.   The fog disappeared and I got to see the ocean...
Then I found the Pigeon Point Lighthouse just north of Santa Cruz (Go Fighting Banana Slugs).  All the out buildings are a hostel.
I had lunch in Santa Cruz at an old drive-in then down the 101.   I drove through Paso Robles during the Harvest Festival (Hey Rita, I DID NOT STOP). I did get to Fess Parker to taste and buy "The Big Easy".  I thought of spending the night around there, but it was only 90 minutes till home.

I ended my little trip Friday night after 2000 miles of fun...   Where to go next time ????????

Day 4 on the Road

Did not get much sleep, people in the rooms on either side of me left their TVs on ALL night.  Too much noice, even for me.  Did laundry and ate breakfast in the hotel.  Here is something new, you have lot leave you room card in this spot to turn on the lights in the room . . .
Then I stopped in Arcata for memories for Cory and Dean.....do you remember......
This is when I figured out that I had to go home instead of traveling around....I need to find a job and take care of getting the condo fixed so we can sell it and move.  Sorry Cory and Dean....Maybe for Thanksgiving.   I turned south and went to Loleta to get cheese...
and then I looked around the corner and found this.....

You can get it at http://www.drpepper.com/ or A&W BBQ Sauce at http://www.rootbeer.com/.  Then over the bridge and over the dell and off to Ferndale I went.  I did go up a hill and took this pix....
I then went to Garberville to get some bread for lunch and then to Richardson Grove State Park.  Once
again I was the only one in the park.   There was a note on the main gate saying that this park will be closed on 11/1/11,  I tried to climb onto of Wonder Stump - but I slipped off.  So I took this pix...
I then moved over to have lunch and took these pix,,,,

 "Ode to Fire Pit"
Two thousand years ago these trees were planted
they grew slowly, reaching for the sky,
flood, earthquakes, and fires could not stop the reach to the heavens
The trees were spared by the lumberjacks from the 1800s
and then came the automobile,  snaking through the trees,
I was installed in the 1950s, so that families can spend the night around my heat,
in the 70s, they moved the campsites, so I was there for the hot dogs and
                   hamburgers of the picnic,
in the 90s, no more picnicers, I was left to be with the redwoods,
Now no one will use me for warmth or to cook their meals,
now time for me to return to the earth where I came, but
these redwoods will be here forever, and maybe,
                   they will remember me.....maybe"

I took a couple more pix while I was in the redwoods....

I then got to finally skip a rock on a river (the Eel River)
Once on the coast I found another lighthouse

I then turned to Highway 1 and drove through Fort Bragg and Mendecino...
Look at all the Sea Otters in the water, watched them for a while.....
Then dinner at Tex Wasabi in Santa Rosa.   EARTHQUAKE 4.2 - 50 miles away.  Here is what I had (Jackass Roll, Tootsie Roll, and Was-n-Roll roll) ...
Off to the hotel for blogging and sleep....The only thing I know about what I am doing is going over the Golden Gate Bridge in the AM....Stay tune to fine out.

Hugs,  Redwood Foggy

Day 3 on the Road

Enjoing a cup of Starbucks in my blue camp cup getting ready to go.   It was very cloudy and foggy driving up the coast to Gold Beach, Oregon.  Once there I found a Bookstore and Coffee Bar, good coffee.   Then I went to the harbor where the Pacific Ocean and the Rouge Rive meet and I found this . . .
I then turned around and headed back to California, but I did stop along the Oregon Coast to take some pix . . .

I stopped at Fred Meyer's to get beer for Kokanee Beer for Rita and found the steal price one Tillamonk cheese Baby Loafs.  Only got one though.   Then down to California for lunch in Cresent City - nothing to blog about.  Once in Arcata, had a long talk with Ed at Libations.  Bougth Rita cloth and then Cory jerky at the co-op.  The next pix are for Cory and Dean.
Went to Eureka to have dinner at "Bless My Soul".  Nothing like Jambalya, Vanilla Carrots, and Creole Corn (and 1/2 hour chat with the owner)...
It was a long day, good milage on the hybrid, sleep well!!!!!!

Day 2 on the Road

Don't laugh - I dreamed of skipping rocks on the river.  So I am now ready to go and
find some skipping rocks. (Update: Lots of Road Contruction along the river - no
skipping rocks today.)

After a cup of coffee from Starbucks - I headed west.  Past Shasta....

Then up the twisting hill and into the F O G....

This next picture is for Rita....
After dodging deer, I got to Arcata.  Talking to Cory, I got supplies for Dean and Cory at Los
Bagles.   Then to Eureka via a peek at Samoa Cookhouse.  Off to Old Eureka to the Farmers
Market and the to Patrick's Point to get at campsite.  : (   No campsites.   There was great views...
Then up to see the Redwoods but I had to get past the elk....
but then there they were....
It was fun driving thru the redwoods with the windows down, the top open, and in Hybrid mode - no noise.  Then a pix to make the family smile . . .

Up to Oregon to spend the night in Brookings.   Staying at Westward Inn - in room 121 (hee hee).  The smell of the lumber mill was great as the fog rolled in.....
Over all a great day, looking for to explore tomorrow....

Take care and hugs,
Redwood Foggy

Day 1 on the Road

Nothing exciting until first break, except the stinky cows.  At my first break, I got to taste cheese at
Anderson's Split Pea in Santa Nella
then I got to buy not one but two of these Rum Balls.....
Then I talked to Dan Lauf on the way to Sacamento.  Sad to hear he was laid-off from work
today.  Had lunch at Cafe Orleans in Old Sacamento - $5.99 Poor Boy.  Not that good.  Then a
quick peek at.....
There was a snack at the Olive Pit - the best for me was the Habanero/Garlic Stuffed Olives with
the Cajun Stuffed Olives #2.   At Redding I had to make decide wither to drive north, drive west,
or stay for the night.   I decided to stay and go west in the morning.  Had dinner at The Cattleman for
free salad and baked potato.  They maked their own dressings - not bad Blue Cheese. With $1 ribs -
 I had 5.

Batck to the hotel to watch "Dancing with the Stars" and blog.  Looking forward to tomorrow
to see redwoods and fog.  My soul needs it.

 Love ya, Redwood Foggy

Set Up Day

It is my first attempt to do a blog.  The name of my blog and my Ford Hybrid Escape is Redwood Foggy, or "Foggy" for short.  When I travel around, you will get to see and hear about my adventures.  So kick back, pour a glass of Fess Parker "The Big Easy", and enjoy my ride!!!!!
