Summer 2012 - Days 8 - 14

What a busy week!!!!!!!

Day 8

This was the day that all the rafts, gear, and food was packed to go on the river.  We headed to Boundry Cheek, ID, the put-in point for the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

 Beautiful high country

Along the way, we stopped at Galena Pass (north of Sun Valley) to stretch our legs and visit mother nature.   Somewhere out the I slipped and slid down the mountain slide in my shorts.  My left knee took the major hit, even though both legs looked bad.  Thanks, to my brother-in-laws, they got me out of this mess.

(left leg - was 2 days after the fall)

We stopped for gas and Glenn leg supplies in Stanley.   We got the camp set up, dinner served, and still had time to relax by the campfire.   I forgot how many stars are out there.   Rita had to scare a deer (mulie doe) from outside our tent 3 times before we could get to sleep.

Day 9

Another travel day for Robin, Rita, and me.  While the rest of the team got the rafts into the water and a lot of the gear loaded, we had to take the rigs with the trailers to the take-out point (105 miles away by river, over 200 miles by road).  It was 11 1/2 round trip drive.

Ramp used to lower rafts into the river.

Where the North Fork and Middle Fork of the Salmon meet and near the pull-out point.  The Middle Fork is to the right and the water is clear.

Elk are everywhere we look . . .

Day 10

Pack up camp in the morning and move all the gear to the boats on the river.

Robin, Summer, and I left them and when to Stanley and had lunch at the Stanley Bakery.  We all LOVED the food.   I had the Reuben - yum.

Then back to the ranch.  Boy did the baby pheasants grow

Day 11

Happy 34th Anniversary, Rita!!!!!!  Love ya!

Robin did chores and I worked on my leg.   Leftovers for dinner.

Day 12

I woke to find my left ankle and foot had swollen to triple the normal size.  Time to go the the emergency room.  While driving there, I heard from Gary that Seth had hurt his hand going down a slide.  Seth and I at emergency rooms at the same time just 1000 miles apart. I got antibiotics for my leg.   Seth will be getting a cast for the broken finger and bone in his hand,

Day 13

Spent the whole day with my leg elevated and the swelling did go away.   Made Mac & Cheese, Ranch Dressing and Croutons for Robin and the grand nieces.

Day 14

Leg still improves, but it does look like alien jerky.   We had grilled hot dogs for lunch.   Then me moved the pheasants to there new home.

There goes one!  and another . . .
